Beauty Reviews and Randoms

Happy October!

photo via

This is my favorite month of the year and it certainly starts off my favorite time of the year.  I love when Daylight Savings ends and I get my hour back.  I love the cool crisp air (which finally arrived here in Dallas yesterday morning, sort of).  And I most certainly love all the Holidays that are coming up.

My son, not so much.  This morning, he wore pants for the first time in several months and literally had a conniption.  Literally - here's the definition of conniption and that is what he had.  He wanted to wear shorts.  I tried to reason with him, letting him know it was cooler outside and he was going to have to start wearing pants and jackets.  Mentioning jackets took him over the edge.  Why did I do that?  In the end, he wore the pants because I'm the mom and that's how we roll at Casa de Cochran-Evans.

So dealing with an "old toddler" as I like to call him, may not be cool but the weather is and so is my attitude.  I've been trying harder lately to put on a good face and be more into the way I look.  I need more vanity in my life, people.  I thought I would give you a peek into some products I've been using for the past month or so.
On my nails is 'Berlin There Done That' from OPI and it was a birthday gift.  Adore the beigey, purple grey and it dries in a decent amount of time.

My current moisturizer is Sulwhasoo's Timetreasure Renovating Cream.  Let me make a quick disclaimer and say that the 60ml size is ex-peh-hen-sive!  I am fortunate enough to have quite a few samples on hand and a small amount of this goes a long way.  It is very rich.  Smells like mushrooms to me so I only use it at night.

The Prada Candy fragrance is c/o the Vogue Influencer Network.  I've been wearing it for about two weeks now.  I tend to like "darker" fragrances but this one manages to be light and airy while still invoking notes of caramel, musk and vanilla that I enjoy.

This lovely little eye palette was also a birthday gift and I love the colors.
Yes, I have sweet friends!  It's the Profusion Runway Eyeshadow Glamour Palette in Berry Bloom.   I'm not so much into Marsala even though Pantone tells me I should be (I'm still on an oxblood kick - more on that below) but this palette works great with darker fall colors.
Speaking of Oxblood, I'm pulling out my new handbag next week.  The Coach Scout Hobo in oxblood.  It's a decent size and my alternative to black for now.  I'll do an outfit post or two with it soon.

Today's #Shoefie.  I love these old Nine West Animal print flats.  The square toe makes your feet look smaller.  Not a bad thing. - just sayin'.  Find similar styles here and here!

Finally Foiled

If you follow me on Instagram you know that a while back I purchased the Heidi Swapp Minc Machine.  If you don't know, it's a foil applicator (like a fancy laminator).  I purchased mine at Amazon and now it's on sale!

I can't believe it took me so long to finally use it.  I love it.  Something about making shiny stuff, I suppose.  Here are two 12" x 12" prints that I crafted up.

I think I will make a few more and put them up on the store and start selling them at my trunk shows, you know, when I get around to hosting them.  Stay tuned on that.   I hope to have one at the casa in October.

Tidbits and Stuff

Brands and Trends:
This is a great article about handbags specifically but I agree with the points it touches on about branding.  For the most part, I just don’t want what everyone else has.  I like to get in on trends when they first happen.  I like to think of myself as an early adapter, but only for certain items.  Only for what I truly like and enjoy.   I don’t want anything just b/c someone else has it... except for Brad Pitt.  But I actually wanted him way before my girl Angie got her hands on him so I digress.

French Grey:

Loving this color.  I'm a huge fan of Le Creuset Cookware and am so excited that Williams-Sonoma carries this limited edition color.  Gorgeous!  And if you are worried about how expensive the brand is, I have come to your rescue because this Le Creuset Stoneware Shallow Square Covered Baker is very affordable and functional.

The Bed:

I believe I have found a bed for our Master.  The Sullivan Bed from Birch Lane.  I love the color and texture of the natural seagrass.  It's casual but still has lots of presence.  My dream crusher husband even likes it and usually for him, everything is meh.  But not this lovely.  He actually said, "that's cool, babe."  That means it's dope and I have a chance at procuring it.  Stay tuned.  Love it!

In other news:
Things in life are going pretty well.  Dax is slowly but surely getting potty trained.  It is really testing our patience, especially mine as I'm the default parent.  Even through the frustration, Dax is such an amazing joy and light.  He's my numero uno!  Not too long ago, I was super burned out at my day job and was kind of checked out but I generally have a good work ethic and it paid off.  I received a promotion and a raise and I am very happy about that.  It was one of my goals for this year and it means a lot.  I hope I don't get too comfortable working for the "man" b/c I still have a 2 year plan of working completely for myself/from home but for now, it's nice.  Feeling very grateful.  Prayers do get answered, #justsayin.

The Last Days

Don't be so glum, I'm not talking about the last days of life - just the last days of the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale!

The sale ends August 2nd which is right around the corner.  And just so you know, it's not all about me and what I would buy for myself.  Today, you get to see some of my cutest pics for the littles in your life.

Master Peace

We are slowly getting our master bedroom together.  We purchased our side tables from Pottery Barn, and now we are looking for a bed/headboard, lamps and some classic and comfortable linens.  However, being in Texas in the summer calls for some edits to our bedroom space as we plan on having peaceful nights of slumber.  I don't want to buy too much now and create a heavy space that literally feels too warm.

In the summer, I remove our duvet cover and let the duvet go commando.  We have a very light weight down comforter so without a heavier duvet cover, it's really the perfect amount and cozy coverage for summer nights.  I still need new linens that will complement my stark white comforter.  I came across some gorgeous linens at Parachute Home and am intrigued by the possibility of getting linens from Italy.  That's the elitist snob in me, y'all!

I read on the Parachute Blog that in Europe, the use of a top sheet is quite uncommon.  This blew my American mind.  But think about it.  Why do you need a top sheet, especially in the summer?  I can't come up with a reason.  And one less thing to buy - my budget likes that!

I think this set of pillow cases and a fitted sheet in crisp, white cotton percale would be perfect for our room for summer and beyond.

What do you do to get your bedroom ready for summer nights?  Do you sleep with a top sheet or without?

The Decision

So everyone knows that once you have your first child, the folks start immediately asking, "When are you going to have another one?"  For the longest time, we weren't sure if we wanted to have another one.  Meaning, I wasn't sure if I wanted another one.  I prayed so hard for Dax and he's here.  He's really enough so I just wasn't sure I wanted to rock the boat, aka my life, our life, with another child.  It is a decision I have thought and stressed about for a good year (or more) now.  Weighing the pros and cons, mulling over being Advanced Maternal Age (such a disgusting term to me) and doubly high-risk, wanting a girl, trying save money in case... and finally, I decided I wanted to try for another one.  So that meant I needed to share my feelings and my decision with my husband to see if he was on board.  Surprisingly, it was one of the easiest conversations we've had.  Not that I thought he'd flat out say no but I thought I'd meet some resistance or the obligatory, it's not the right time.  But alas, my baby daddy is ready to sail these uncharted waters.

It may not happen, and that's ok but we are ready to give it to God and see.  If it doesn't happen naturally, then it just won't happen.  I'm not stressing and how unusual is that!  I've also come to terms with the fact that I could have another boy and you know what, that would be great too.  I would hardly need anything new thanks to Big Bro Dax and my unwillingness to part from anything of his.  Seriously, whatever happens will be fine but at least we've finally made the decision to try.  The relief of not stressing over this anymore has lifted an anchor from my shoulders.  And now, we're off.

My husband recently told me he thinks I look pretty in peach so of course, I am all about it now (I didn't look too shabby here either).  Thought I would share my window shopping with you.  These are so affordable!  Do you like peach as a wearable color?  Which top is your favorite?
